Both Michelle and Jamie are now home safe and sound. After a first good night in that we managed to get five hours continuous sleep last night was not so good. I personally got seven hours sleep but not all at once. I had four hours before Jamie got me up, then I had another hour and I was up again followed by another two hours sleep before both Jamie and the cats got me up.
Here are some pics of him when he is being nice and cute and alseep.
As I am sure you are all eager for news I just wanted to let you all know what’s been going on.
Shell and Jamie came home from hosptial on Saturday afternoon at about 4pm. She had been home for about 2 hours when she started to not feel well. Fortunately Uncle Ian had popped round so he was able to look after Jamie whilst I took care of Shell.
She was complaining of being cold and was shaking badly despite the heating being on full whack. I brought the duvet down from upstairs and wrapped her up in that but it didn’t make much difference.
We had bought a digital ear thermometer for Jamie so I used that to take Shell’s temperature it was 39.8 degrees celcius.
I rang the delivery suite and the first midwife thought that it might the milk coming through as that can make you feel fluey.
I left it for another 5 mins but she wasn’t getting any better so I rang back and spoke to someone a bit more sensible when I mentioned her temperature they said she needs to come back in. This really upset Shell and she tried to talk me and Ian into letting her stay home and that she was feeling better. After another half hour with no improvement I took her temp again and this time it 40.9 at this point she conceided the fact that she would have to go back which is just as well as it turns out she had both really bad trapped wind and an infection.
She has been on an antibiotic drip for the past two days and is feeling much better.
She had hoped to be coming home today as it is her birthday tomorrow and she didn’t want to be at the hospital on her birthday but they wanted to keep her in overnight and after last time she wasn’t going to push her luck.
In the midst of all this Jamie has been doing great although he has been keeping Shell up at nights so she is really knackered and has had about 10 hours sleep in the past week.
We took the opportunity whilst we back in the hospital to get Jamie’s birth certificate sorted out and there has been a slight change in plan. He is now officially Jamie and NOT James. We decided in the end that Jamie just suits him better.
Another slight change in plan is that he now has a middle name which we weren’t planning on. His full name is Jamie Andrew Dowd. Andrew is my middle name and Shell really wanted for him to have the same middle name as me.
As I have said they should both be coming home tomorrow so I will post some better pictures of Jamie when I get chance to take them – there may even be another video if he is being extra cute.
P.s. A really big thankyou goes out to Uncle Ian as he has been a godsend the past few days.
He is finally here – after a long nine months the big day has finally arrived.
Please say hello to my son James aka Jamie
He was born at 1:13am this morning and weighed 8lbs 1oz
Unfortunately everything did not go to plan and Michelle ended up having to have a C-section. However we are both chuffed to bits that he is now here and Michelle and James are both doing great.
It is now 4 days to go until the birth of my son. Admittantly he could come at any time but it certainly won’t be any later than that.
Things are beginning to get a bit hetic at home as I am having to redecorate the hall, stairs and landing in addition to having to move all the furniture out of the lounge as we have had cleaners come in today to clean the lounge, kitchen and bathroom in anticipation of our new arrival.
Shell has just rang me to let me know that the decorating is now sorted.
A decorator that Shell has used before and is very good is going to paint all the woodwork. We are going to paint the walls. And the carpet is now getting fitted at the end of November.
As per usual I’ll post some pictures when I get chance.
Although the nursery is now fully decorated and all the furniture is built we have decided to try to squeeze in one last spot of decorating before the baby arrives.
We have ordered a new carpet for the hall, stairs and landing. The old carpet desperately needed replacing as it just plain minged.
However we want to take the opportunity to get it tarted up a bit. As time is short we have been ringing round trying to get hold of a decorator who can come in and give it a lick of paint.
We were due to have the new carpet fitted this weekend but we may have to postpone it for a week or two until the painting is finished.
